Van mahotsav means “ A festival of trees”. This tree planting festival is observed every year in the month of July. Every citizen of India is expected to plant a sapling during the Vanamahotsav week.
Keeping this in mind this year, our co-ordinator Ma’am Maria Gaonkar initiated the planting activity for the Kindergarten section. A parent from the KG B class volunteered to give around 60 saplings for the planting activity. Her passion for plants and enthusiasm with regards to this activity is highly appreciated.
Eventually, it was decided to conduct the planting activity on 7th July 2022. This involved great planning and a lot of prior preparations which was well-managed by our co-ordinator. Since KG section has five divisions, 60 saplings were equally distributed to the classes wherein, each class got 12 of them.
The students showed great eagerness while planting the saplings. They were told about the importance of trees and were given simple instructions on how to take care of the same.
Children waited patiently for their turn and were extremely excited to plant the saplings. Overall, it was a thrilling experience.
This was followed by a special assembly on ‘Vanamahotsav’ which was conducted by the students of KG B to spread the message of importance of tree plantation.
The assembly began with a prayer song followed by an interesting message, ‘Trees are an important part of our life. We need to save them.’
After this a few children told us about the history of this festival and its relevance in the present time. Thereafter, a poem on trees ‘Plant a tree to save the world’ was recited to highlight the need of planting more trees around us.
A few children then stressed on some important points that can help us to save trees like use less paper, buy recycled paper products , use cloth bags etc. This was done using relevant props.
Thereafter a song ‘Lets plant a flower, let’s plant a tree, was sung beautifully, describing how planting trees is easy and so much fun.
Children then presented a very interesting skit to spread awareness about the importance and the need of trees in our life and what our future will be like if no steps are taken to save trees now.
